Welcome

Relaxing at QEGS

I have thought long about how to make this site interesting. More pics maybe. Articles and posts are not a problem – topics in music relevant to a male voice choir are infinite. I spoke to Clive and he suggested narrative hooks on which topics are hung. The commonest narrative is a timeline. So here goes.

2005-2009

NMMVC Secretary David Illingworth, many years ago, created a newsletter. This was taken on by David Haigh who passed it onto me.

This turned into a choir magazine which had a short life (4-5 years), but did engage a number of choir members in writing about singing and themselves. A forerunner to a choir forum.

2013-2015

Ged Faricy convened a marketing group which continued with John Middleton, Steve Flynn, Bill Judd, his wife and others. It touched on a lot of good ideas for choir marketing, including merchandise, brochures and promotional events. We linked with University of Huddersfield Business School. Four students researched marketing with us and successfully wrote up their work for their undergraduate degrees. It was here we were encouraged to go down the Facebook route.

We made a short video in 2013 about choir history https://youtu.be/QJQsgswdg4k

This group has now lapsed, but has left a Facebook presence in its wake. Facebook group is available for anyone to post articles and comments. Facebook page is a vehicle for the choir to promote New Mill MVC across the platform, getting the choir and singing ‘out there’. A kind of business page which is selling harmony, performance, fellowship, concerts and choir membership. There were only a few posts from before 2015 (clic on link for more).

2015-present day

I have tried to support the Facebook presence and the choir by keeping a record of meetings and saving posts and articles for posterity (clic on link for more on blog archive). See left margin menu for more on articles.

2021

We have to go back to 2013/14 when a Facebook page/group was initiated with the help of the University Business School.

Steve is aware that, today, posters and flyers have little impact on advertising and sales compared with Facebook and Twitter.

Hence a choir committee initiative to take the page on.
